HISTORY

Church

New Life Restoration Centre

New Life Restoration Centre (NLRC) was founded by Group Senior Pastor Jeremiah and Susan Yap in 1981. The pioneering group of six met in a house in Jalan SS2/88. In January 1982, this small group of believers moved to a shop lot at Section 17, Petaling Jaya where we grew to about 100 members. In October 1984, we moved to a double shop lot in Damansara Utama. When the number of members increased to several hundred, we moved to Section 54 in Petaling, which remains as the headquarters of the church.

As the church grew in size, we also grew in vision for our nation and also the nations of the world. Mission teams were initially sent to East Malaysia, North Thailand and Indonesia. Soon the Lord extended our tents and we are presetly blessing the nations of Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Russia, India, China and Sri Lanka.

Amidst this missionary and evangelistic fervor, New Life also started planting churches in our own nation of Malaysia. In July 1988, the Chinese Church in Petaling Jaya was formed with a group of 20 from a spiritual harvest of an evangelistic meeting. In May 1991, our first New Life Outreach in Shah Alam was planted. Believing that church planting is the most effective form of evangelism, our church planting zeal continued with churches planted in Cheras, Ampang, Damansara Utama and Puchong. We are also proud to have our first Indigenous outreach church in New Life Telagus in Sarawak, and subsequently more and more Indigeneous Churches are being planted in West Malaysia. As of today, tens of New Life Churches have been planted in the our nation as well as other nations.

Church Vision

Bring Up People

This is the vision of making disciples in the heart and spirit of a father or parent in bringing up children. In this light, discipleship is not merely curriculum-based, although needed, but it is real- life impartation. Discipleship in the family as a base of discipleship is an expedient way to prepare a church for greater discipleship of new believers that come into the church. Churches pray for revival and harvest of souls into the kingdom. If a revival happens and it brings in many new believers into the church who will make disciples of them? However, if church members are equipped to make disciples of their children, shifting from making disciples of the family to new people in the church family is not difficult. There is a pool of disciplemakers in the church ready for an end-time harvest of souls.

Build the Church

The church family is made up of church families. We might have heard this being stated: “an apparently strong (big) church may not necessarily make strong families; but strong families will make a strong church”. This is a good thought. NLRC aspires to build spiritually strong families so that we have spiritually strong NLRC churches. Of course, one can argue about what is the definition of a “strong” church and whether it is merely around families. As we look at the church as the gathering of “called-out” ones, it is imaginable that families that are built in faith and firm in Christian values, gather together in God’s kingdom purpose, they can become a kingdom force in this world. Let us dream of building such a church!

Blessing the Nations

The gospel of Christ is Good News to modern man. When the gospel of the kingdom reaches a nation or nations, God’s blessing descends upon that land. This is the aim of evangelism. In a world of dysfunctional families, societal problems, mental diseases and human brokenness, they need the Good News of Jesus Christ. The curse of deception and pains of violence, fear, anxiety and suicides, only God’s blessing can reverse any curse. If church families shine in the light of the gospel, they are transforming agents in a dark world. The spirit of evangelism will naturally flow from families in God’s grace and blessings, wisdom and truth that defeats deception. Many families need answers for broken marriages, rebellion in the children and all sorts of addiction. Many are in need of some form of blessings
